User Audience

The user audience was people who love to listen to music, specifically people the ages from 18 - 28 but older people were also not out of the audience.

My roles and responsibilities

My role and responsibilities in this project was to do the User Research, create user flows, sketch ideas, make the hi-fidelity prototype and conduct Usability testing.

Project Scope and Constraints

The scope of this project was two weeks. One week to conduct user research to see if people would like this feature and one week to make the design and prototype and to conduct Usability Testing.

I did not really have any constraints with this project as it was a passion project.

Research

For this app I wanted to try a new feature that Spotify and Apple Music do not have. That feature is a way to see what your friends are listening to while they are using the app.

I was able to ask 60 people about this feature and 65% said they would use it, while 35% said they would not.

Results and Learnings

The results were that everyone loved the idea and the feature. 65% said that they would use this feature which was good enough for me to implement as a feature in this music app that I created, in a real world situation it might not be because of money or business goals. But since this was just a fun little project for me I decided to try it!

What I learned was that sometimes it's good to trust your gut on a new feature but that it always best to conduct user research and usability testing for the feature to get validation and to see how users interact with a new feature.
